Revered Faculty Member Passes Away - OSU says Good-bye to Dr. Jonathan Friend

STILLWATER, Okla.—Dr. Jonathan Friend was one of the original faculty members who founded OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.  He taught gross anatomy and served the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine from 1949 to 1986.  Friend is beloved by OSU veterinarians for his gentle nature and dedication to student teaching and learning.

Plum Island Animal Disease Center: Protecting the Nation’s Livestock

STILLWATER, Okla.—Dr. Lawrence Barrett, Class of 1981, Oklahoma State University (OSU) Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, presented the Class of 1963 Distinguished Lecture at the 2008 OSU Fall Veterinary Conference held recently at the Wes Watkins Center on the Stillwater campus.  Barrett is the director of the Department of Homeland Security Plum Island Animal Disease Center.  The keynote speaker is sponsored by an endowment established by the Class of 1963.

Prize Show Dogs Visit OSU - Veterinary Center treats a Dogue de Bordeaux

STILLWATER, Okla.—Ms. Hilary Branscum, Oak Hollow Bordeaux (www.oakhollowbordeaux.com), of Pink, Okla., is an owner/handler/breeder of Dogue de Bordeaux show dogs also called the French Mastiff. She took Nellie, a 3 ½ year old Dogue de Bordeaux, to Oklahoma State University’s (OSU) Center for Veterinary Health Sciences to have her bred. Last week, the dog was back for a sonogram to determine if, in fact, she is pregnant.

OSU College of Veterinary Medicine Celebrates 60th Anniversary

STILLWATER, Okla.—Since the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine opened its doors in March 1948, the small land grant institution has served as Oklahoma’s only veterinary college. Many of its 3,165 graduates have had stellar careers in veterinary medicine and are renown world-wide. And through their hard work, dedicated faculty adds more prestige to OSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

OSU Donor Builds Safe House for Dogs

STILLWATER, Okla.—Bill and Sallie Morris of Lubbock, Texas, are passionate about kids and dogs. The couple has donated $1 million to the Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences to support fund small animal critical care at the Boren Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. But their generosity doesn’t stop there.
